Pokémon Phantasmal Flames Elite Trainer Box: Is It Worth It?

The Pokémon TCG Mega Evolution: Phantasmal Flames Elite Trainer Box is the Charizard chapter of the hyped Mega Evolution era — nine sealed booster packs, a Charcadet promo and a Mega Charizard X ex chase, released 14 November 2025. Sealed and authenticated at PUSHAS. The live listing shows the current price. Short verdict: sealed, it's one of the standout boxes of the era; opened, it lives and dies on one card.

Every so often a set arrives that collectors treat less like product and more like an event. Phantasmal Flames is one of them — not because the whole checklist is stacked, but because it's the box where Charizard shows up in his most striking Mega form yet. That single fact drives everything about this box.

What's inside the Phantasmal Flames Elite Trainer Box?

The ETB is the format most collectors start with, because it's the best mix of packs and usable extras. Inside you get nine Phantasmal Flames booster packs, a full-art foil promo card featuring Charcadet, 65 card sleeves showing Mega Charizard X, and 40 energy cards. Rounding it out are a player's guide to the expansion, six damage-counter dice, a competition-legal coin-flip die, a plastic coin, a code card for Pokémon TCG Live, and a collector's box with six dividers to keep it all organised. The sleeves, coin and box carry Mega Charizard X branding, which gives the ETB genuine standalone collectible appeal even before you factor in the packs.

The chase: Mega Charizard X ex

Phantasmal Flames is heavily "top-loaded" — a huge share of the set's chase sits in just two cards, the Mega Charizard X ex Special Illustration Rare and its gold Mega Hyper Rare counterpart. It's widely considered one of the best-looking Charizard cards of the whole Mega era, which is exactly why the set moves. Beyond the two Charizards you've got other desirable Mega ex hits — Mega Gengar ex chief among them — plus full-art trainers, but the hit list thins out sharply after the top.

That shape is the crux of the question. If you open a box and hit a Charizard, you're delighted; if you don't, the rest of the set won't carry the day the way a more evenly-loaded expansion might. For sealed collectors, it's almost the opposite: a box built around this Charizard is one to keep factory-sealed on the shelf.

Where it sits in the Mega Evolution era

Context helps you judge scarcity. Phantasmal Flames (ME02) is the second main expansion of the Mega Evolution era, following the base Mega Evolution set from September 2025. It arrived alongside the wider Mega revival — the mechanic's return in the video game Pokémon Legends: Z-A poured fresh attention onto Mega-focused sets. Later releases in the block, including Chaos Rising (ME04, May 2026), came after Phantasmal Flames, not before — so this remains the definitive Charizard-led entry of the era rather than an also-ran.

So, is the Phantasmal Flames Elite Trainer Box worth it?

It depends entirely on why you're buying. As a sealed collectible, it's one of the more compelling boxes of the era: a Charizard headliner, with Mega Charizard X branding on the box, sleeves and coin. As a box to open, treat it as the coin-flip it is — the upside is a stunning Charizard, the downside is a set whose chase cards are concentrated at the very top. Either way, sealed on PUSHAS it's a clean way into the Mega Evolution era, and the live listing shows the current price.
